2023 Rescue Missions

Rooster 1_edited.jpg

January 2023

Rooster

Rooster was running loose as a stray near a busy intersection. Tyrrell picked him up, and sadly no one came to claim him during his stray hold. He stayed at The Mutt House until he was able to go on transport to an out-of-state rescue.

January 2023

Girly and Geo

These sweet, precious babies were dumped at a local middle school in this plastic tub. School employees put out a call for help on Facebook, and Tyrrell was able to go look for them. Girly (left) had stayed close to the plastic tub, but Geo (right) took a little longer to find. He had managed to climb behind some thick brambles on the side of the road, and he was too scared to come out on his own. Luckily both puppies made it to the shelter, and they were adopted!

January 2023

Georgia

Georgia and at least two other dogs had been living as strays in a wooded area off the highway. Tyrrell and other rescue volunteers started taking food and treats to these dogs for several days, and eventually just this one beautiful girl felt confident enough to let people approach her. The rescuers took her to the shelter, and she was adopted!

February 2023

Rebel

Tyrrell spotted Rebel running down a sidewalk all alone on a cold and rainy morning. She picked him up, and later found out that he had been at the shelter before and already had a name. Unfortunately, his owners did not come to reclaim him. Rebel was heartworm positive and did not thrive in the shelter environment, so he was euthanized. He was a good, sweet boy who was failed by humans.

Boomer 3.jpg

February 2023

Boomer

Boomer had already been brought to the local shelter, but was in extremely rough shape. He was suffering from multiple infections in his skin, eyes, and ears that required attention from a veterinarian. Tyrrell picked him up from the shelter to foster him and get him medical care. Another local rescuer named Lory was then able to get a spot for him with an out-of-state rescue, so he went on transport!

February 2023

Chip

Chip showed up in the yard of an animal lover who was not allowed to have pets at her residence. She put out a call for help, and Tyrrell went to pick this little boy up. He was not claimed during his stray hold, and luckily Parish Paws was able to secure him a transport spot, with Tyrrell fostering in the meantime.

Carmen 2_edited_edited.jpg

February 2023

Carmen

Carmen had been roaming a neighborhood for several days before she decided to try to convince one of the residents to let her move in. It was not to be, but the kind people did put out a call for help in getting this sweet girl to safety. Tyrrell picked her up and got her to the shelter, where she was adopted!

February 2023

Bella

Bella's story is tragic. She was left in a cage in a parking lot, with a note explaining that her owners were forced to give her up. Bella was so frightened and aggressive that Tyrrell could not let her out of the crate. Another local rescuer named Haley arrived, and together they managed to get the whole kennel into the back of Haley's vehicle. Bella went to the local shelter, but she was not able to calm down in time to save her life. She remained extremely aggressive, and she was euthanized. Bella was probably just exhibiting symptoms of severe trauma after being abandoned by her family.

Mabel 1_edited.jpg

April 2023

Mabel

Mabel was found on the side of the road, emaciated and with two puppies in tow. A group of rescuers mobilized to get these dogs off the street. Tyrrell took Mabel to the emergency vet to assess her condition, which was very poor, and after a few days Mabel went to a foster home that became her forever home!

June 2023

Charlotte and Puppies

Charlotte showed up in someone's front yard and gave birth to eight precious babies. The homeowners could not take the family in, so they asked for help. Tyrrell and Kathy arrived and learned that the resident children had already named the mama dog Charlotte -- all of the puppies later received names that were also characters in Charlotte's Web. Tyrrell and Kathy cared for this family at The Mutt House until the puppies were old enough to go on transport to a rescue on the east coast. Charlotte stayed to undergo treatment for heartworms, and then she traveled east as well!

Sebastian 3_edited.jpg

June 2023

Sebastian

Sebastian was discovered by Lowe's employees in their garden center, underneath a pallet. He had multiple injuries, and his finders used Facebook to put out a call for help. Tyrrell and Kathy picked him up and took him to the vet. He got medication, bandages, and lots of kisses. He was still so tiny and young that he could not even potty on his own! Although Tyrrell and Kathy initially tried to find a home for Sebastian, he got big before anyone inquired, and Kathy had fallen too deeply in love to let him go! Sebastian is now a permanent pack member at The Mutt House.

June 2023

Molly

Tyrrell and Kathy spotted Molly running loose around an abandoned house. They picked her up and took her home for a bath and some food, and later they put up signs in an attempt to find her owner. Then the big storm of June '23 happened, and all the signs were blown down. While replacing them, Tyrrell and Kathy happened to find Molly's owner. He had proof that Molly was his, so the folks from The Mutt House gladly handed her over to him. Sadly, a few weeks later, social media posts revealed that this owner was accused of violence against his partner and this puppy. The partner had managed to escape with Molly, and she surrendered her to someone else in the neighborhood, who subsequently found a nearby family that would adopt this sweet, spotty girl.

June 2023

Butterbean and Noodles

On the day after that big summer storm, someone on Facebook posted that Butterbean (left) was following a couple on their walk up Highland Ave. Tyrrell then happened to see the trio through her kitchen window, so she ran outside with a slip lead and told the couple she would work on finding the dog's owner. Only a minute after getting into the car and heading back down Highland, Tyrrell spotted Noodles (right) trucking up the road. Tyrrell pulled over, and Noodles only jumped in the car when she saw that Butterbean was already there. After a few days, the big girls' owner was able to make contact. She had gone into the hospital on the day of the storm, leaving the dogs in the backyard. They escaped the next day through a spot in the fence  Tyrrell kept these sweethearts for their mama's time in the hospital.

July 2023

Edelweiss, "Eddie"

Eddie showed up at someone's house one night, and they were unable to keep her, so they requested help from the rescue community. Tyrrell picked her up and held onto her for a few days until Tanya was able to take over fostering. Tanya also made contact with an out-of-state rescue who agreed to tag Eddie, and she left on transport for a better life.

Barbie and Little Bear 4_edited.jpg

July 2023

Barbie and Little Bear

Barbie's and Little Bear's story is sad and dramatic. They were posted on Facebook by someone claiming that he had found them in an empty home that he had been hired to clean. There were originally two other puppies, but he gave them away before Tyrrell and another rescue volunteer named Mariel went to the address and spoke with the person who had made the Facebook post. Little Bear was the only puppy left, and she and her mother were both emaciated and covered in filth. Tyrrell took them home, got them cleaned up and vetted, and started looking for rescue options. In the process, it was revealed that the person who "found" these dogs was actually their legal owner. One of the other puppies in the litter -- who was born without eyes and suffered from hydrocephalus -- had already gone to a local rescue group called Saved By Grace, where he got the name Mega. Moreover, Tyrrell and Mariel discovered older Facebook posts in which the owner had been trying to rehome these dogs, with no mention of having found them at a worksite. Fortunately, Little Bear was adopted locally at an event put on by the shelter, and local rescuer Sherie Muslow was able to get Barbie a spot on transport to an out-of-state rescue.

July 2023

Tina Belcher

Poor, sweet Tina was dumped in an industrial area on the outskirts of Shreveport. Someone working nearby shared his hamburger with her and made a Facebook post asking for help. Tyrrell picked her up, and because she was so emaciated, the shelter gave permission for Tina to go home with Tyrrell as a medical foster. She is a silly, playful girl, who is now living at Pet Savers of Shreveport, and would love a forever home!

Sunshine 4_edited.jpg

July 2023

Sunshine

Sunshine is another baby who showed up unexpectedly in someone's yard, and no owners were ever located. Tyrrell picked her up and fostered her until she was adopted during an event at the local shelter!

September 2023

Scooby Doo

Kathy and Tyrrell were on their way home from another rescue mission (a failed one, sadly) when they saw Scooby Doo huddled up against the side of a building on Highland Ave. They pulled over and called to him, but he ran to a house across the street. He had a severe limp in one of his back legs. Tyrrell and Kathy spoke with the residents of the home, who not only said they didn't want the dog anymore -- they even mocked him for his limp and threatened to make it worse. Tyrrell offered them the only money in her wallet, a $20 bill, if she could take the dog home, and the owners agreed. It turned out that this sweet, special boy had been hit by a car in the past, and his injury required major surgery to help him heal. Scooby went to Pet Savers of Shreveport for a little while, but he is currently back at Tyrrell's home waiting for someone to adopt him!

September 2023

Ruthie and Puppies

Ruthie technically had an owner, but according to neighbors, he did not put much effort into taking care of her. The neighbors took on the responsibility of feeding and bathing Ruthie, as well as giving her love and affection. When she had a litter of puppies, the neighbors asked the community for help. Tyrrell and Kathy picked up the little family and brought them home. One of the puppies had to spend that first night in the hospital, because he was so eaten up with fleas that he was anemic and required a blood transfusion. Unfortunately Tyrrell was not able to secure a rescue tag for anyone, so the puppies went to the shelter when they were weaned. One of them was adopted very quickly, but in a tragic turn, two of them contracted parvo. One did not survive, but the other one is in foster with the neighbors who initially put out the call for help with him and his mama. Ruthie is still in foster with Tyrrell. Both of these sweet babies would love a forever home!

Bonnie 1.jpg

2023

Bonnie

Bonnie was posted on Facebook by someone who noticed her outside her workplace, struggling and in terrible condition. She was so teeny tiny that everyone thought she was a young kitten, but it turned out she was actually a very senior cat. She had multiple medical issues, and the emergency veterinarian recommended that Bonnie be let go so she wouldn't suffer anymore.

November 2023

Beth

Tyrrell spotted Beth running around in Highland all on her own. She picked the sweet girl up and held onto her until Beth's human dad was located, and the two were reunited!
